It tells the story of U.S. Marine Lt. Col. Michael R. Strobl, as he escorted the body of a young Marine killed in Iraq to his final resting place in Wyoming. It's a compelling story, but not an easy one to watch. It's not the kind of movie you'd want to watch again and again, but you should watch it once.
It's based on the trip report that Strobl wrote immediately after the the event. After getting permission from the family, he emailed his account to a few friends, and from there it spread through the military and around the world. You can read it here: http://www.chancephelps.or
Kevin Bacon's portrayal of LTC Stroble is outstanding -- flawlessly eloquent in its depiction, often wordless, of the entire process by which the remains of a fallen serviceman are prepared and shipped home. The pacing of the movie is slow, but riveting. I watched the entire 1:40 without pause.
You'll be touched by the response of the American people as they encounter the escort. The respect shown by people from all walks of life is touching.
